Explore some of the most scenic cities in the Mediterranean. From the bustling port city of Split to the mesmerizing Plitvice Lakes, we'll get a chance to see all of Croatia's most beautiful sites! We'll go beyond the tourist hot-spots to uncover a different side of these beautiful places. Check out the below itinerary for more details.
Itinerary
Friday September 15th
Plan to arrive at the Split (Resnik) International Airport in Croatia by 4pm. From there private transportation will take you to our beautiful accommodations in the center of Split. Split is a lively city in Central Dalmatia. The city was originally built around the Diocletian Palace (a palace/fort built for the retired Roman emperor Diocletian) where the locals sought refuge centuries ago. Wandering the historic centre of Split you can still clearly see the Roman walls, squares, and temples. If you arrive early you'll have a chance to settle in and explore the charming old town before we enjoy appetizers and drinks while getting to know one another and talking about the exciting week of adventure ahead!

Saturday September 16th
Our comfortable, air-conditioned mini-van will pick us up and head through the countryside towards the captivating Plitvice Lakes. The unity and harmony of 16 lakes and their rare natural and cultural value is not only famous throughout Croatia, but also worldwide. Arriving to Plitvice, we'll walk through these ancient woodlands led by our experienced guide. The path takes us first across Gornja Jezera or Upper Lakes, a system of 12 lakes separated by travertine barriers. Then it's time for a peaceful boat ride towards the second area called Donja Jezera or Lower Lakes which are displayed in a limestone canyon. Wherever you are in Plitvice it's easy to see why its travertine marble formations are such an extraordinary natural phenomenon. The barriers, sills, and other forms created in these lakes are still an ongoing process that shape the wonderful landscapes that make your walk through the park so enjoyable. It's these same travertine formations that have and are still creating the numerous magnificent waterfalls here. Over time, the water changes its course, leaving some barriers dry as it deposits new layers elsewhere. This constant evolution means that the Plitvice Lakes never look the same. We will feel the roaring thunder of the Big Waterfall which stands 78 meters high as its water hits the ground! Our journey ends with a tram ride back to the front of the park. We can use this opportunity to taste typical local dishes from the area in a local tavern. After lunch we will drive back to Split along the highway, still excited and full of lasting impressions—make sure your camera has extra batteries!

Sunday September 17th
Today we'll enjoy a leisurely breakfast before exploring the hidden alleys surrounding Diocletian's Palcae and Old Town. We'll enjoy coffee at the stunning marina before we head to Vidilica Restaurant which sits on a hill overlooking the town where we will enjoy a light lunch. The rest of the day is yours to continue exploring the charming seaside town, shop for souvenirs, or enjoy a massage at one of the many spas.

Monday September 18th
This morning we hop on the ferry and head to the beautiful island of Hvar. With its gently rolling purple hills, lush vineyards nestled at the foot of ragged mountains, gorgeous beaches with tiny inlets and secluded coves, luscious restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife set amidst the medieval streets of Hvar Town, it's easy to see why this is a dream of an island. We'll have the afternoon to catch our breath and settle in before enjoying a nice dinner at the best rooftop bar in Hvar overlooking the marina.

Tuesday September 19th
The main square of Hvar Town may be the most stunning place on the island, but Stari Grad, the oldest village on the island, and Jelsa, as well as a smattering of small villages, dotting the coast or nestled in the lush interior are well worth a visit. And today we'll get to explore them with our private driver and guide. We'll return to Hvar Town with plenty of time for lunch and a journey to the monastery, cathedral, and nearby beaches.

Wednesday September 20th
We will again board the ferry today to journey to the famous medieval town of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is a stunningly intact walled city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia. Although its population barely exceeds 40,000, it's one of the most prominent tourist resorts of the Mediterranean and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. There are countless attractions to visit while in town which include Roland's Column and the Bell Tower where you can find the famous 'Zelenci', bronze statues which strike the gigantic bell every hour. This old town also houses the Sponza Palace, the Gothic Renaissance palace that is one of the few buildings that has maintained its form from before the catastrophic 1667 earthquake. You'll have the afternoon to wander the fascinating old town area and enjoy a glass of wine at one of the dozens of cafes.

Thursday September 21st
Join your host for an early morning walk along the city's ancient walls. A walk along Dubrovnik's famous city walls is a unique wonderful experience and a must-do when visiting Dubrovnik. During this walk on the 1,940 meter long walls, we will explore Dubrovnik from a completely new angle. We will climb the highest point of Dubrovnik's Old Town - the rounded Minceta Fortress, from where we'll enjoy amazing views over the city's red roofs and St John's Fortress. Walking along the southern section of the city's walls we'll enjoy a view of the sailing boats and kayakers as they pass by. We will also see Buza beach - a rocky spot beneath the city walls - this is a unique hidden place for swimming and sunbathing. Along this section of the walls there are several cafés (ideal for a short break) as well as souvenir shops offering authentic Croatian souvenirs. The afternoon is yours to relax on the beach or again wander the old city before we head out to one of Dubrovnik's best restaurants. Here we'll dine on gourmet Croatian cuisine while we reminisce about our amazing trip and say goodbye to the friends we've made along the way.

On this last day everybody will begin their journey home (or to the next destination of their private vacations). See below for details about the extension to Mljet.
Mljet Island Extension Friday September 22nd - Monday September 25th
Consider extending your trip for an extra four days to soak up the scenery on breathtaking Mljet Island off the coast of Croatia. Whether you want to lay by the water all day or spend time hiking the lush hillsides, there is something for everyone on this island. The resort we will be staying at has a beautiful pool and is located just a short walk from one of the best beaches on the island. We will be situated slightly away from the hustle and bustle of town, so it is an excellent place to really relax and get away from it all. If you're interested in a more lively scene, we will be just a quick bike or taxi ride away from anywhere on the island.
During the extension there are no planned group activities. This is a time for you to do whatever you would like in this paradise. Transportation to and from the island and hotel are included in the extension costs. Anyone with a flight leaving before 1pm from Dubrovnik on September 25th will need to arrange earlier transportation at an additional cost.
