Discover the real Greece - beyond the busy streets and well-trodden tourist sites. From magical Athens with its glorious history and well-preserved monuments to the spectacular island of Santorini with its beautiful beaches and stunning scenery, we will have a chance to see some of the most fascinating sites Greece has to offer as well as get a glimpse of the lesser known and more authentic side of Greece. Check out the below itinerary for more details.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Friday August 18th
Plan to arrive into Athens International Airport (ATH) by 4pm to get to our hotel in the heart of Athens in time to enjoy some welcome drinks and appetizers while we get to know each other and talk about the amazing trip we have in store. Athens is an incredible city with so much to see and do, and we will have a chance to see the best of it. But if you would like to tour inside the Acropolis or see any sites not listed on the itinerary, it is recommended you arrive earlier in the day (you will also have plenty of free time in the afternoon on Day 2 for this). We are staying in the city center so most tourist sites are just a walk away! After our welcome, the night is yours to explore the bustling city or turn in early to prepare for our exciting weeks ahead of exploring the best of the Mediterranean!
Overnight in Athens
Day 2 - Saturday August 19th
Today we will embark on a walking tour of Athens. We'll immerse ourselves in the city's ancient history while we walk along streets lined with historical sites. We'll see the Greek changing of the guard and explore secret corners of the city that most travelers miss. We'll visit Hadrian's Arch and the ruins of Jupiter and pass by the National Garden on our way to the stadium where the first Olympic games were held. We'll wander the streets of Plaka to shop for souvenirs or try some famous Greek ouzo. And, of course, no tour of Athens would be complete without a walk around the walls of the famous Athens Acropolis. We will end our tour with lunch at any one of the amazing restaurants nearby. The remainder of the day is yours to relax or explore any number of the incredible sites or activities Athens has to offer.
Overnight in Athens
Day 3 - Sunday August 20th
After a nice breakfast at our hotel, we venture outside of Athens to see the stunning sites of Delphi. We will have a chance to immerse ourselves in the myths and monuments of classical Greece while we explore the UNESCO-listed archeological site with an expert guide and learn how the city was considered the ‘Center of the World’ in ancient Greece. We will be awed before the dramatically situated Temple of Apollo, then discover long-lost wonders at the Delphi Archeological Museum, including the Charioteer of Delphi and the Sphinx of Naxos. You will have a chance to get a bite to eat in Delphi before we make our way to the handicrafts towns of Arachova and Levadia on the way back to Athens.
Overnight in Athens
Day 4 - Monday August 21st
On this day we will be visiting breathtaking Meteora. We will be picked up by our private driver to start the incredible journey on the road towards Thermopylae. We will visit the Thermopylae Museum which is next to the monument of King Leonidas, in the historic Thermopylae, dedicated to the 480 BC battle that changed the course of Greek history. Afterwards we will visit stunning Meteora, with our first stop at The Holy Monastery of Great Meteoro which is the biggest and oldest one of all. It was called the monastery that was "suspended in the air" (meteoro), because of the formation of the gigantic rock on top of which it was built. Our second visit is to the great monastery of St. Stephan. This monastery rests on the plain rather than on a cliff. During World War II it was damaged by Nazis who believed it was harboring insurgents. It was then abandoned before nuns took over and reconstructed it. We wil also have a chance to admire a small treasure of Byzantine and Christian items, at the museum inside the monastery. This unforgettable day will be completed at the picturesque villages of Kalambaka, where we will have a traditional Greek lunch.
Overnight in Athens
Day 5 - Tuesday August 22nd
We will say goodbye to Athens today as we board the ferry to nearby Naxos. Náxos is the biggest and the greenest island in the Cyclades with its impressively high mountains, fertile valleys, lush green gorges, stunning seascapes, and traditional villages perched high on mountain tops. Here the inhabitants still wear their traditional dress and live off the fruits of the land! Náxos is an island of beautiful old churches, monasteries and Venetian castles coexisting harmoniously with Cycladic cubic houses. Once we've settled in to our new guesthouse we will have all evening to explore this enchanting island.
Overnight in Naxos
Day 6 - Wednesday August 23rd
Once we've enjoyed a filling breakfast at our guesthouse we will embark on a walking tour of Naxos Chora and the picturesque Portara Gate area. We’ll have the afternoon to relax at one of the most beautiful beaches in the area, swim in the refreshing pool at our accommodation, or continue exploring the town with the new friends we've made on this trip.
Overnight in Naxos
Day 7 - Thursday August 24th
This morning we'll depart Naxos and take a quick ferry to the gorgeous island of Santorini. You'll have some free time after we've settled in to our new home to explore the beautiful island.
Overnight in Santorini
Day 8 - Friday August 25th
After an amazing breakfast at our hotel we’ll spend the day journeying to all of the best spots on the island. Our first stop will be the village of Imerovigli. Built on the highest point of the Caldera Rim, it offers amazing panoramic views of the island. Just a 15 minute drive further and we will stop in Oia village. This fairytale village is considered a national treasure and is one of the foremost tourist attractions of Greece After departing from the scenic Oia, we will drive back a different route taking us through the vineyards and a unique traditional windmill village. Our next stop is Santos Winery, the largest winery of the island. It is a great place to taste the local wines (vinsanto, assyrtiko, nykteri) and buy some local products such us tomatoes, capers, and fava beans to take back home with you. We will next journey to the volcanic beaches of the island. Instead of the 'ordinary' sandy beaches we will see black-pebbled beaches that are a result of past volcanic eruptions. We will also visit the world famous Red Beach near the ancient village of Akrotiri, with its red – colored sand. We can stop at any number of the local restaurants for lunch before heading back to our hotel. You will have the evening to relax and unwind.
Overnight in Santorini
Day 9 - Saturday August 26th
Today is yours to do whatever you'd like. You can return to one of your favorite spots from yesterday's tour, explore the nearby area, sunbathe on the beach, or refresh in our pool. It's completely up to you how you want to enjoy the last day on this beautiful island. Tonight we'll gather together for a delicious goodbye dinner and to remenisce about the amazing time we've had together in Greece!

Day 10 - Sunday August 27th
On this last day everybody will begin their journey home (or to the next destination of their private vacations). See below for details for the extension to Paros island.
Paros Extension - Sunday August 27th - Wednesday August 30th
Consider extending your trip for an extra four days to soak up the sun on scenic Paros island. This gorgeous island in the Cyclades is known for its unrivalled natural beauty, beaches with crystal clear waters, and Byzantine footpaths connecting traditional villages and breathtaking landscapes. Whether you want to lay by the water all day or you'd rather spend time hiking the footpaths, there is something for everyone on this island. The place we will be staying at has a beautiful pool and is located just a short walk from one of the best beaches on the island. We will be situated slightly away from the hustle and bustle, so it is an excellent place to really relax and get away from it all. If you're interested in a more lively scene, we will be just a quick bike or taxi ride away from anywhere on the island.
During the extension there are no planned group activities. This is a time for you to do whatever you would like in this paradise. Transportation to and from the island and hotel are included in the extension costs as well as transportation to the Paros port for anybody who would like it on Wednesday August 30th.
