Uncover the breathtaking beauty of Peru. From the lively capital of Lima, one of South America's largest most bustling cities, to the fascinating city of Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, and the starting point of the incredible journey to Machu Picchu, we'll experience it all! Check out the below itinerary for more details.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Friday June 2nd
Plan to arrive into Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) by 4pm. From there you'll be picked up by private driver and taken to our accommodation in the heart of Lima. Lima is an incredible city with so much to see and do. If you would like a chance to take in the city's beautiful colonial architecture and elegant cathedrals, it is recommended you arrive earlier in the day. We'll get to know each other and talk about the amazing things in store for the weeks ahead. After our welcome, the night is yours to explore the bustling city or turn in early to prepare for our exciting weeks ahead of exploring the best of Peru!
Overnight in Lima
Day 2 - Saturday June 3rd
Today we will begin our bus tour down the coast of Peru. We'll stop at the Cristo del Pacifico and learn about the war between Peru and Chile at this stunning location. We'll enjoy some of Peru's freshest bread during a bakery tour before wandering the Hacienda San Jose Chincha, the secret slave tunnels that stretch 17km underground. Once we arrive in Paracas the remainder of the day is yours to relax or indulge in the country's famous ceviche from one of the beautiful rooftop restaurants.
Overnight in Paracas
Day 3 - Sunday June 4th
This morning we'll hop on a speedboat to explore the Ballestas Islands. This 2 hour trip will introduce us to the area's penguins, sea lions, and marine birds. We'll next explore one of the largest protected desert reserves in South America before we again board our bus and make our way to the desert oasis town of Huacachina. After we've settled in, we'll head out for an exhilarating evening of riding dune buggies and sand boarding before spending the night in our luxury tents in the middle of the desert.
Overnight in Huacachina
Day 4 - Monday June 5th
After a delicious breakfast and morning of relaxing, we'll board our bus for the journey to Arequipa. Along the way we'll stop at a Pisco Vineyard and learn how the national drink is made while getting all the samples we can handle. We'll also stop in Nazca and climb the town's tower to take in the best views of the famous Nazca lines before enjoying an authentic Peruvian dinner. After a relaxing sleep in the reclining luxury seats, we'll arrive in Arequipa bright and early the following morning.
Overnight in Luxury Bus
Day 5 - Tuesday June 6th
Upon our arrival in this charming town surrounded by 3 volcanoes, we'll enjoy an amazing breakfast at our hotel before having the day to take it easy and begin to acclimate to the higher elevation. It is important to remember not to over-exert yourself and to stay hydrated while adjusting. Everyone reacts to higher elevations in different ways, but so long as precautions are taken, we are able to adjust without side effects. This is a lovely town to explore leisurely, but there are also plenty of things to do for those who do not wish to sit still. There are several available walking tours that visit the beautiful monasteries, cathedrals, and museums. For anybody who might be feeling more adventurous there are many cooking classes, white water rafting trips, and downhill volcano biking excursions available as well. This day is yours to do whatever sounds best to you, just be mindful of how you feel.
Overnight in Arequipa
Day 6 - Thursday June 7th
This morning we will set out early to our next destination of Puno. Puno is a city on the shore of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable body of water. Here we'll stay with a local family on the incredible floating Uros islands of the lake. This is a truly one-of-a-kind authentic experience where we'll learn about island life and be treated like one of the family.
Overnight in Puno
Day 7 - Friday June 8th
Today we will tour the other islands on the lake and learn more about how they're made. We'll enjoy delicious home-cooked meals and get to try our hand at fishing. The peaceful setting on the lake and spectacular sunrises and sunsets are not to be missed.
Overnight in Puno
Day 8 - Saturday June 9th
We will enjoy one last home-cooked meal before departing Puno and heading to Cusco. This is a long and scenic bus ride where we'll have plenty of time to catch up on reading, napping, or simply enjoying the scenery. We'll arrive in Cusco in the late afternoon and have the remainder of the evening to explore the town.
Overnight in Cusco
Day 9 - Sunday June 10th
We'll be picked up at our hotel and head out on a drive to the Urubamba Valley. In the Sacred Valley of the Incas, we’ll visit the monuments around Pisac and the picturesque Pisac market. This is the shopping paradise of the Andes, where bartering is still practiced. Enjoy the unique atmosphere and take a break for a typical lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll pass through the towns of Calca and Urubamba and visit the Inca fortress and citadel at Ollantaytambo. The fortress was built to guard the entrance to this part of the valley, and protect it from possible invasion from the tribes in the lower jungle. We'll take a walk along the quaint streets of the town and get a good idea what the strategic military, religious, and agricultural center was like during the days of the Inca empire. On the way back to Cusco, time permitting, we’ll stop in the picturesque Andean Village of Chinchero to visit the ruins of the Royal Hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui. We'll see the well-preserved wall in the main square and the colonial-era temple built on Inca foundations, with frescoes in the portico. The rest of the evening is yours to do whatever you like!

A visit to Peru would not be complete without exploring this magical place! We will meet up with our friends from the Inca Trail trek and can hike the surrounding Huayana Picchu mountain or stick to exploring the main ruins.
